Event Overview

The Round Rotherham Run - Solo is an 80 km (approximately 50 miles) trail running event. It takes place on a Saturday in early October, with the next scheduled event on October 3, 2026. The event is organized by the Trail and Fell Running Section of Rotherham Harriers and Athletics Club and is licensed by the Trail Running Association (TRA), a UK Athletics body.

Route and Terrain

The course follows an undulating route through the designated South Yorkshire Forest area, with a total climb of approximately 800 meters. The terrain includes canal towpaths, tracks, field paths, roads, and woodland. The route is split into eight stages, passing through checkpoints at Grange, Treeton, Harthill, Woodsetts, Firbeck, Maltby, and Hooton Roberts. A railway level crossing is on the route, and participants are responsible for their own safety when crossing.

Start Times and Schedule

Participants start in waves based on their expected finish time. Scheduled start times are:

  • Slower Walkers: Around 4:00 AM (16-20 hour target)
  • Walkers and Joggers: Around 6:00 AM (12-17 hour target)
  • Runners: Around 7:00 AM (under 12 hour target) Checkpoints have specified opening times. The event is a qualifier for the LDWA 100-mile event and is often used as training for the Marathon des Sables.

Rules and Requirements

The event is held under UKA/TRA rules. All competitors take part at their own risk. Participants are expected to be experienced and must carry or wear adequate clothing, including a waterproof top, due to the potential for autumnal weather. A torch is required for those starting early or finishing late. A mobile phone must be carried with the event's emergency number saved. The event follows The Countryside Code.
