Rowbotham's Round Rotherham International Trail Event

The Round Rotherham is an established trail running event covering a distance of 80 km (50 miles). The course follows an undulating route through the South Yorkshire Forest, featuring approximately 800 meters of total ascent. Although the area is designated as a forest, the terrain consists primarily of rural land and field crossings rather than dense woodland. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association (TRA) and held under UK Athletics rules.

The route is divided into eight distinct stages, each ending at a designated checkpoint:

  • Stage 1: Start to Grange (15.6 km)
  • Stage 2: Grange to Treeton (10.1 km)
  • Stage 3: Treeton to Harthill (11.9 km)
  • Stage 4: Harthill to Woodsetts (9.2 km)
  • Stage 5: Woodsetts to Firbeck (9.0 km)
  • Stage 6: Firbeck to Maltby (6.3 km)
  • Stage 7: Maltby to Hooton Roberts (9.1 km)
  • Stage 8: Hooton Roberts to Finish (9.5 km)

Underfoot conditions vary by section, including hard-surfaced cycle tracks, canal towpaths, forest trails, and open field crossings which may be muddy depending on the season. The event center is located at the Manvers Waterfront Boat Club (MWBC). Participants are categorized into start bands based on their expected finishing times, with early departures available for walkers and later starts for runners.

The event serves as a qualifying race for the LDWA 100-mile event. Safety requirements include carrying a mobile phone with specific location apps and wearing appropriate clothing for potential autumnal weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
