Rowbotham's Round Rotherham International Trail Event

This long-standing trail event reaches its 43rd edition in 2026. The course covers a distance of 80 km (50 miles) through the South Yorkshire Forest. While the route is undulating with a total ascent of 800 m, it remains at a relatively low altitude, staying below 150 m throughout. The terrain is a mix of rural land, hard-surfaced paths, canal towpaths, and some muddy sections through woods and fields.

The event follows a circular route starting and finishing at the Manvers Waterfront Boat Club. The course is divided into eight stages with seven checkpoints providing refreshments:

  • Stage 1: Start to Grange (15.6 km)
  • Stage 2: Grange to Treeton (10.1 km)
  • Stage 3: Treeton to Harthill (11.9 km)
  • Stage 4: Harthill to Woodsetts (9.1 km)
  • Stage 5: Woodsetts to Firbeck (9.1 km)
  • Stage 6: Firbeck to Maltby (6.3 km)
  • Stage 7: Maltby to Hooton Roberts (9.1 km)
  • Stage 8: Hooton Roberts to Finish (9.5 km)

Participants must be self-sufficient and prepared for autumn weather conditions. Required equipment includes a mobile phone with specific emergency applications installed and a torch for those starting early or finishing after dark. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association (TRA) and is recognized as a qualifying event for the LDWA 100-mile event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
