Rodney Coast Challenge : course and event information
The Rodney Coast Challenge is a one-day multisport event traversing the Rodney District from east to west. The course is split into four stages that can be completed individually or by teams of two, three, or four. The route uses forest tracks, open public roads, gravel roads and the Puhoi River, finishing at Wenderholm Regional Park.
Distances:
- 10 km forest run on gravel roads (Rimmer Road loop).
- 30 km road cycle from Rimmer Road via SH16 through Helensville and Kaukapakapa to Makarau.
- 25 km mountain bike from Makarau Valley via Tahekeroa Road, Upper Waiwera, Noakes Hill and Krippner Road into Puhoi.
- 8 km kayak on the Puhoi River to Wenderholm, then a short run to the finish.
Entry categories include Individuals, Tandem teams, and Teams of 2–4 with youth and adult pricing. Event t-shirts are included with entries; late entries incur an additional fee and refunds require a medical certificate.
Key event notes: the road cycle and mountain bike stages use open public roads (no road closures) so competitors must obey road rules and marshal instructions. Approved bike helmets and buoyancy aids are mandatory for the bike and kayak stages respectively. Support vehicles are banned on the mountain bike course. Transition areas are provided and pre-race drop-offs are available the day before. Marshals and volunteers manage safety and logistics; competitors and support crews must follow their directions.
