About the race
The Riverhead Backyard ReLaps Ultra is a backyard ultra event held on 3 April 2027 in Riverhead Forest, with the event centre near the corner of Ararimu Valley Road and Barlow Road. The race uses a looped course of approximately 6.7 km through commercial pine forest, mostly on the lower valley floor. Lap start and finish are under a start/finish gantry.
Runners must complete each lap within one hour. The field restarts the course at the top of each hour and continues until only one runner completes a further lap. Runners who miss the start corral or fail to finish a lap are recorded as DNF. A whistle warns at 3, 2 and 1 minutes before each hourly start.
The course will be fully marked on event weekend. There are no aid stations on the course; water and support are available only at the event base. Support crew are limited to two people per runner at a time based at the runner's tent site, with some relaxation after 12 hours. Spectators are allowed at the event centre only. No personal aid or pacing is permitted on the course and no non-competitors are allowed in the forest.
Facilities at the venue include marked tent sites roughly 4 m by 4 m, portaloo toilets, limited water and no mains power. The event is cup free so participants should bring their own vessel for water. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
