About the race
The Family Tough Guy & Gal Challenge in Kumeū, West Auckland is a family team obstacle event held on Sunday 1 August 2027 at the Kumeū Showgrounds (Gate 2, Access Rd). The course is approximately 3 km in length; venues vary so distance may be shorter while being equivalent in time to a flat 3 km cross country course. The event combines family-friendly and classic obstacles such as mud pits, climbing walls, and crawling tunnels across rugged farmland and natural bushland.
Team entry options are limited to family combinations with an over‑18 to under‑18 ratio of at most 1:3. Team formats:
- 2 person team: 1 adult 18+ plus 1 child aged 5–17
- 3 person team: 1–2 adults 18+ plus 1–2 children aged 5–17
- 4 person team: 1–2 adults 18+ plus 2–3 children aged 5–17
- 5 person team: 2 adults 18+ plus 3 children aged 5–17
Entry periods and fees:
- Early (1 Nov 2026–30 Jan 2027): $50–$80 per team depending on size
- Standard (31 Jan 2027–26 Jul 2027): $60–$90 per team
- Event day in‑person: $70–$100 per team
All competitors receive a finishers medal and downloadable certificate. Facilities at the showgrounds include hot showers, toilets, changing rooms, covered gathering areas, hot food and free parking. Dogs are not permitted. Covered shoes are compulsory; studs of aluminium or running spikes are not allowed. Personalised race numbers require entry by 15 July.
