Rocky Gap Trail Run
The Rocky Gap Trail Run takes place in Rocky Gap State Park, located in Flintstone, Maryland. This event features multiple distance options and formats, including solo participation and relay teams of two or three people. The race utilizes a course structure consisting of three distinct loops that showcase the varied terrain of the park in Western Maryland.
Available race distances include:
- 25K (approximately 16.1 miles)
- 50K (approximately 32.2 miles)
- 25K Relay
- 50K Relay
The course is designed around three loops, labeled A, B, and C. The 25K participants complete each loop once in alphabetical order. The 50K participants complete the three-loop sequence twice.
Loop A follows the Rocky Trail and is 6.5 miles long with over 500 feet of elevation change. It include steep sections like Evitt's Revenge and singletrack trails. Loop B is a 4.4-mile segment known as Canyon Overlook, which features 500 feet of elevation change, ridge traverses above a gorge, and a mix of singletrack and doubletrack trails. Loop C is the Lakeside Loop, measuring 5.2 miles. This section is primarily flat with approximately 250 feet of elevation change and provides views of the water.
The total elevation change for the 25K distance is approximately 1,300 feet, while the 50K distance reaches a total elevation change of about 2,600 feet. The event staging area serves as the transition point between loops. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
