Rockin Rockford
Rockin Rockford is an adventure race held at Rockford Lake in the S98th East Locust Road dam area, about 10 miles east of Beatrice, Nebraska. The event offers two timed formats that test navigation and endurance across multiple disciplines.
Participants choose between two formats:
- 2 Hour event, about 15 miles
- 5 Hour event, about 35 miles
Racing is available for solo competitors and teams of two in male, female, or coed categories. Solo entrants complete all disciplines; teams run and bike together while only one team member kayaks. Disciplines include mountain biking, kayaking, running, hiking, and map reading. Approximate discipline distances include a 4–5 mile run or hike, about 22 miles of biking round trip, and about 2 miles of kayaking.
Race logistics include check in with maps, clues, and punch cards provided at check in. Maps are pre-plotted Cal Topo maps. Kayaks and bikes are placed in a transition area near the start and finish. Late check in is penalized by loss of checkpoints at a rate of one checkpoint for every five minutes late. Fees cover shirts, snacks, drinks, maps, and medals for top teams. Participants are advised to carry basic gear such as a small pack, bike repair kit for flats, a cell phone, water and snacks, and map cases or ziplock bags. Park permits are required at the entrance.
