Rock Hall Triathlon
The Rock Hall Triathlons are held on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in Kent County, about 18 miles from Baltimore by direct distance. The festival includes Olympic and Sprint triathlon and aquabike distances over two days.
Distances
- Olympic: 1.5K swim, 24.5 mile bike, 10K run
- Sprint: 750 m swim, 15 mile bike, 5K run
Swim courses take place in Rock Hall Harbor on the Chesapeake Bay with an in-water start at the city dock and a finish at Rock Hall Landing Marina’s A-Dock. Athletes swim around the harbor perimeter where the center is only 2–3 feet deep; a protective breakwater usually keeps the water calm. After the swim athletes climb a ladder out and run about 300 meters down the dock to transition. Water temperatures are typically expected in the mid 70s with official readings posted by USAT officials race morning.
Bike courses are mostly flat and well paved, passing open cropland and wide shoulders. The Olympic bike includes one small hill near mile 13 on Earl Nicholson Road. Wind can be a factor on the exposed Eastern Shore.
Run courses are flat and pass nautically themed neighborhoods. Aid stations are provided roughly every mile, with water, sports drink, and ice at the Olympic distance.
The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned. Packet pickup requires photo ID and must be collected in person. Participants registering for both days receive a discount on the second race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
