Roanoke Valley Weighted Race

The inaugural Roanoke Valley Weighted Race takes place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Participants can compete with either speed or strength by carrying a weight of their choice over a 2.5-mile out-and-back course along the Roanoke Greenway, from River’s Edge North Park to Piedmont Park.

The race uses a scoring system based on "pound-miles" or "Kz." A participant's score for a lap is calculated by multiplying the weight carried by the lap distance. For example, carrying 10 pounds yields 25 Kz. Participants choose how much weight to carry at the start of each lap and can change it for subsequent laps. The format allows for as many laps as desired within the time limit, provided the final lap is completed before time expires. Weight can be carried via ruck, backpack, weighted vest, sandbag, or similar means.

Awards will be given for overall winners, age group winners, and for achieving individual Kz milestones. The event is presented by Human-Powered Endurance. Parking and the start/finish area are at River’s Edge North Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
