Roadtown Turkey Trot
The Roadtown Turkey Trot is a community 5K run-walk held in Shutesbury, Massachusetts. The event benefits the Friends of the M.N. Spear Memorial Library and supports the new Shutesbury Public Library's programs and services. Parking and race-day operations are based at Shutesbury Elementary School, 23 West Pelham Road. The start line is about a quarter mile from the school, so participants should plan for a short walk between parking and the start.
The event program includes a children's fun run around the track behind the elementary school. Bib pick-up is available the day before at the new library and on race day at the school. Post-race activities take place in the gymnasium and include awards, a prize drawing, and refreshments. Sponsors and local businesses provide food and items for the raffle and awards; complimentary coffee is provided by Dean's Beans, bagels by Tandem Bagels, and cider donuts by Atkins. Age group winners in the 5K receive a Roadtown Turkey Trot hat, and the first walker receives a prize. All 5K participants are entered into a raffle of about 40 prizes; winners must be present to claim raffle prizes, including a turkey from Diemand Farms.
Course details note mixed paved and dirt roads through hilly terrain, finishing on a long downhill into the elementary school. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
