Roach Valley Way Charity Relay
The Roach Valley Way Relay is a stage trail run that follows written descriptions, maps, and footpath 'Way Markers' along the Roach Valley Way long-distance footpath. The full route is 23 miles and is organised as four separate legs.
Entry is per team and each team must consist of four different runners. Each leg is treated as a standalone trail run with its own start and marshal coordinators. There will be minimal marshals on the route, so teams must navigate using the Roach Valley signage, the provided route maps and descriptions, and some supplementary signage. Runners are expected to reccie their route and not to leave temporary markers.
Scoring awards 1 point to the first finisher on a leg, 2 points to the second, and so on; the team with the lowest total score over the four legs wins. In the event of a tie the fastest overall time decides the result. A runner may compete for more than one team. Prizes are awarded to first, second and third place teams and to the first ladies team, and medals are provided to finishers. Organisers recommend runners be about 15 years or older but leave the final decision to the team or club.
Race numbers are issued before the first leg and must be worn on the chest. Parking is available in the main Rochford car park, a short walk to Rochford Town Square and to the Horse & Groom pub where results and prize giving take place. All profits from the relay will be donated to Havens Hospices (Registered charity No. 1022119). Local and national COVID-19 restrictions will be adhered to and cancellation may occur with refunds given accordingly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
