Event Overview
The River City Run is a long-standing spring running event in North Alabama that has been held for over thirty years. Taking place in Decatur, the event features a variety of flat and fast road races suitable for different age groups. The start and finish lines for all distances are located in the Water Park west parking lot at the Archery area.
Distances and Course Routes
Participants can choose from several race options:
- 10 km: A loop course featuring 3.5 miles through residential streets and a finish along the Tennessee River.
- 5 km: An out-and-back course that follows the park and golf course perimeter road near the river.
- 10 km/5 km Double: A combination event for those wishing to complete both distances.
- Kids Fun Run: A loop for all ages on the paved perimeter trail around the Spirit of America field.
Awards and Recognition
The event provides finishers medals for both the 10 km and 5 km races, while children in the Fun Run receive specific awards. Cash prizes totaling $800 are available for the 10 km race, with awards for top male and female finishers, as well as Master and Grand Master categories. The 5 km race also recognizes overall winners and various age groups ranging from 14 and under to 70 and over.
