River City Roots Run

River City Roots 4 Mile Run is presented by Run Wild Missoula in partnership with the Missoula Downtown Foundation. The event is a four mile fun run held the morning of the River City Roots Festival and runs through the heart of Downtown Missoula.

The start location is on East Main Street between North Higgins and North Pattee and the finish is at Brennan's Wave in Caras Park. Registration categories include free entry for ages 13 and under, discounted rates for University of Montana students with a valid Griz Card, and tiered open registration fees. Open registration participants receive a festival cup, wristband, and drink ticket. All participants receive a custom Roots Run tee for the first 500 registrants, chip timing, and a custom bib.

Awards are given to the top three overall male, female, and non-binary finishers with Runner’s Edge gift cards for first, second, and third places. Age group awards are offered across standard age brackets from 9 and under up to 90 plus.

The Missoula Downtown Foundation is the race beneficiary; funds support downtown improvements including the Caras Park Canopy replacement project, which is budgeted at $500,000.
