Light the Way 5K & Kids Run
The Light the Way event on December 19, 2026 is a festive night run that takes place on paved and gravel paths around Fort Missoula Park. The course is lit for the evening setting, and participants can expect cookies and cocoa at the finish. Because the run is held after dark, participants are strongly recommended to bring a headlamp or flashlight to wear during the race.

An Ugly Sweater Contest runs alongside the event; participants wear holiday sweaters and a panel of judges selects the ugliest sweater. The winner is announced immediately prior to the race start. A course map is available that allows toggling between the Light the Way 5K course and the Kid’s Run course so participants can view both routes.
The event presentation is oriented toward an evening, community-focused run with family elements such as the free kids run and post-race refreshments.
