Holiday Night Run at Fort Missoula
The Light the Way 5k is a festive evening running event held at Fort Missoula Regional Park in Missoula, Montana. The event takes place during the winter season and features a course illuminated by luminaires to celebrate the holidays. Participants navigate a route consisting of paved sidewalk paths and approximately 0.5 miles of crushed gravel. Due to the timing and season, the terrain may be covered in packed snow or ice, and the use of headlamps, flashlights, and traction devices for footwear is encouraged.
The event offers two distinct distances:
- 5 km
- 0.5 mile Kid’s Fun Run
The 5 km race is chip-timed and limited to 350 participants. Along with the main run, the event includes an Ugly Sweater Contest held at the starting area, where a panel of judges selects the most holiday-themed attire. The finish line area, located at the Bella Vista Pavilion, provides cookies, candy canes, and cocoa for participants. Attendees also have the opportunity to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Registration is required for both the 5 km and the free Kid’s Fun Run. The event enforces a policy of no refunds or deferrals, though bib transfers are permitted through a specific online process if completed before the designated December deadline. Packet pickup is available both at a local running shop earlier in the day and at the park pavilion shortly before the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
