About the race
The River City event on July 31, 2027 in Huntington, WV is a paired running event and fundraiser for Huntington High Cross-Country, with a portion of proceeds directed to Facing Hunger Foodbank. The races start and finish at Harris RiverFront Park and run through downtown and Marshall University campus.

Both courses exit and reenter Harris RiverFront Park through the 10th Street entrance. The 5K route turns left onto Hal Greer Boulevard, while the 5 Mile route continues along 5th Avenue to about 19th Street before returning. A water station is placed about 1.5 miles into the 5K and shortly before the 3 mile mark of the 5 Mile course. The starting line is at the far end of the parking lot near the 12th Street entrance. Packet pickup and race-day registration are handled at a check-in table near that entrance.
Awards include custom River City 5 Mile keychains for the top three overall in each race and for the top two in each age group. Cash prizes for the top three overall in the 5 Mile are 1st $150, 2nd $75, and 3rd $50. High school and collegiate athletes must verify prize eligibility under their governing rules; any declined prize money will be donated to Facing Hunger Foodbank.
A collection container for nonperishable food donations will be located near the check-in area. Suggested items include canned fruits and vegetables with pop-top lids, canned or shelf-stable meats, canned soups, beef stew, chili, rice, pasta and sauce, boxed helper meals, peanut butter, dry beans, dry cereal, instant oatmeal, cream of wheat, shelf-stable milk, and bottled water.
