Trail Running in Barboursville Park

The Ridge to River Trail Run takes place in Barboursville, West Virginia, utilizing the trail systems within Barboursville Park. Participants can choose between two distinct trail distances:

  • 10 miles with 1,000 feet of elevation gain.
  • 4 miles with 450 feet of elevation gain.

The 4 mile course consists of the initial section of the longer route. This segment begins with an uphill climb for the first eight tenths of a mile before entering deep woods and single track trails. There are no hydration stations located along the 4 mile course.

The 10 mile distance continues past the wooded section to reach the river trail near the four mile mark. This portion of the event features a hydration station and follows the Guyandotte River for 2.5 miles. The river trail section is flat and allows for a faster pace. After exiting the river trail at a second aid station, the final 3.5 miles are mostly flat, with the exception of one hill climb. This elevation gain provides a view overlooking the valley portion of the park. The event concludes with a final downhill stretch measuring eight tenths of a mile leading to the finish line.
