Rhayader Running Club DOWNHILL 5K (ish) : 13 May 2026
This is a short road and trail race organised by Rhayader Running Club in the Elan Valley. The course crosses Craig Goch Dam and then follows a largely downhill section of the Elan Valley trail, with the final straight on tarmac finishing close to Ty Penbont Tearooms. The descent on the route is approximately 400 ft and the distance is described as 5K (ish).
The event uses an open road at the start before moving onto trail. The start location is close to Craig Goch reservoir and there are toilets near the start. Race number collection takes place at the registration/finish area; parking is available there but limited. A signposted two mile walk leads to the start and a minibus shuttle will run to the start with a limited number of seats.
Entries are online only with a standard fee of £12.00. Discounts of £2.00 are available for Welsh Athletics members and for members of Rhayader Running Club. Online entries close on 10 May and entrants must be at least 14 years old on race day. Total places are limited to 100. A Welsh Athletics race licence is in place. Prizes are awarded by overall position and by age category, with presentations held at Ty Penbont Tearooms. All entrants receive race day details by email.
