Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals

The Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals is an annual fundraising event presented by Meredith Village Savings Bank to benefit the Seacoast Science Center’s Marine Mammal Rescue program. The event centers on a chip timed 5K trail race through Odiorne Point State Park and includes organized runs for children.

The 5K trail route moves through mixed terrain including forest, rocky shore, sandy beach, and areas alongside historic military fortifications, with views of the Gulf of Maine and Little Harbor. The course is not stroller friendly, dogs are not allowed in the park, and an adult must accompany children aged 12 and under on the 5K.

Distances:

  • 5K trail race
  • 300 yard dash for ages 1 to 7
  • 1/2 mile run for ages 8 to 12

Race amenities and features described for recent years include moisture-wicking adult race shirts (the first 150 registrants receive a free shirt; shirts also available for purchase at $20), chip timed results, and awards for the fastest male and female overall plus top finishers in age groups. Registration fees listed for a recent year were $45 for ages 13 and up, $30 for ages 6–12, free for those under 6, and $12 for kids fun run entries. A community beach cleanup organized with Blue Ocean Society follows the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
