Remutaka Rail Trail Run and Walk
This event is a run and walk along the Remutaka Rail Trail through the Remutaka Ranges, with the Race HQ at the Kaitoke Kart Track clubrooms near Upper Hutt. The course starts at 254 m above sea level and follows a shallow gradient of less than 1 in 40 toward the turnaround near the summit. The route passes through bush clad valleys, tunnels and bridges and is described as negotiable by any modestly fit person.

Most of the route is hard packed gravel or dirt road and is suitable for road or trail shoes. Drink stations are provided at about 5 km, 7 km (14 km turnaround) and 10 km, with additional water at the finish. A coffee cart will be near the Kart Club clubroom, and EFTPOS will not be available for food or drinks.
Course specifics: the 7 km is out and back on the early flat trail. The 14 km continues to a turnaround just before Ladle Bend bridge. The 21 km crosses Ladle Bend bridge and uses Back Road with a stream crossing and hill climb before looping back downhill to the Kaitoke finish. The 21 km start is approximately 425 m down the road from Race HQ.
Parking is available at or near Race HQ and along Kaitoke Loop Road but is limited. Bib collection is available on the Friday before the event at the Trentham Harriers clubrooms and on race day at Race HQ. Numbers must be pinned to the front at chest height. Walkers with poles should keep left and remain single file. For safety, participants in the 21 km who do not reach the 7 km point at Ladle Bend within 1 hour 25 minutes must turn around. First aid responders will be on course and at Race HQ. The event will be held wet or fine and participants are advised to be prepared for changing weather.
