Remutaka Rail Trail 2026
The Remutaka Rail Trail Run and Walk is scheduled for 07 November 2026 near Upper Hutt. The event follows the Remutaka Rail Trail through the Remutaka Ranges and is organised as an annual fundraiser for the Trentham United Harrier and Walkers Club.
The course begins at about 254 m above sea level and follows a shallow gradient of less than 1 in 40 to a turnaround near the summit. The route passes through a steep, bush clad valley with river views, tunnels and bridges. Surfaces are predominantly hard packed gravel. Water is supplied at points along the course and a coffee cart will operate near the Kart Club clubroom. EFTPOS services will not be available for food and hot drinks, so cash is required.

Registration closes on 06 November 2026. The event materials note that the course can be negotiated by any modestly fit person. The name Remutaka derives from Maori words remu meaning "to gaze about" and taka meaning "to sit down"; the alternative spelling Rimutaka is noted as having no meaning in Maori.
