Event Overview
The Red Rock Canyon Marathon takes place in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, located on the west side of the Las Vegas valley. This natural area is federally designated as a Backcountry Scenic Byway. The course follows a 13 mile paved scenic drive that passes through various Mojave Desert landscapes.
Participants can observe sandstone formations and desert vegetation throughout the route. The area is also home to local desert wildlife. The location holds historical significance for the organizing body, as the Calico Hills trailheads served as the inspiration for the company name and visual identity.
Distances and Transit
The event includes three distinct distances on paved surfaces:
- 5K
- 1/2 Marathon (13.1 Miles)
- Marathon (26.2 Miles)
For those staying on or near the Las Vegas Strip, a contracted bus service is available for transport to the conservation area. This round trip shuttle service is open to both registered participants and spectators for a fee. The driver maintains a list of paid passengers to manage boarding.
The race environment is defined by the vistas of the Mojave Desert and the specific geology of the Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive. The event is held within the borders of the National Conservation Area in Nevada. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
