Red Dirt Backyard Ultra - Karratha, Western Australia
The Red Dirt Backyard Ultra is scheduled for 27 June 2026 at Bayview Road Caravan Park in Karratha. The event follows the backyard ultra format: runners complete a 6.71 km loop on the hour, every hour, and continue until only one participant remains, known as the Last One Standing. Entry is solo only; teams are not an option.
The course is a trail loop composed of gravel, hard sand, and red dirt. The route is flat with no elevation gain, but mixed and sometimes uneven surfaces can become more noticeable after several loops. A GPX file of the course is provided by the organisers.
Entry pricing is tiered: a $60 launch rate for the remainder of 2026, $70 Early Bird from 1 January to 31 March, $80 Standard from 1 April to 31 May, and $90 Late from 1 June to 21 June 2026. Organisers also publish a race manual, rules, and a safety briefing for competitors and volunteers.
The event includes informal duck spot prizes placed on course that can be returned to headquarters for a reward. Training runs on the loop are organised with Pilbara Trailblazers. Volunteers are required for roles such as aid station, first aid, tail running or walking, and event setup and pack down; volunteers receive a voucher and a 10% discount on entries to the Karratha Trail Adventures event in addition to member benefits.
