10th Annual R.E.D. 5k Run/Walk
The R.E.D. (Reaching Educational Dreams) 5k Run/Walk is an annual community event held at the Hare Pavilion on the Wilmington Riverfront. Sponsored by the Wilmington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the event supports educational and cultural enrichment programs for students in Wilmington and New Castle County. The course is situated on the riverwalk, located behind the AAA buildings.
Participants can choose from several participation options:
- 5k Run/Walk
- Competitive Walking 5k (strictly for walking, no running or jogging permitted)
- Virtual 5k
The event features chip timing using the MYLAPS BibTag Timing System. Awards are provided for overall male and female winners, overall masters, and the top three finishers in ten-year age groups ranging from 18 to over 70. There are also specific awards for the top three male and female competitive walkers.
Registered participants receive a t-shirt, although these are only guaranteed for those who sign up by May 18. The first 300 finishers of the in-person race receive a finisher medal. Post-race refreshments are provided at the site. Strollers are permitted on the course, but dogs are not allowed due to insurance policies.
