The Rathfinny Run
The Rathfinny Run is an off-road trail event held at The Tasting Room, Rathfinny Wine Estate, Alfriston, Polegate, BN26 5TU, inside the South Downs National Park. The event offers two distance options run on a hilly loop through the estate vineyards.
- 10.7 km single loop
- 21.4 km double loop
Each loop is approximately 220 metres of elevation. The course surface is mainly grass trail with some hard track and wooded sections, with cambers, roots, tight switchbacks and several hills. Distance markers appear every 2 km. If conditions are wet the route is likely to be muddy.
Race services include chip timing, a water and banana station at the 5 km marker and at the start and finish, portable toilets near the Hut and The Tasting Room, a bag drop at the start at runners own risk, and a five minute warm up before each race. Aid stations will offer fruit and vegan flapjack or malt loaf. No single use cups will be provided so participants should bring their own hydration option.
Travel arrangements note parking near the Cellar Door and Tasting Room; car parking is free for cars with two or more runners and a small charge for single-occupancy cars is donated to the WOLO Foundation. A shuttle bus will run for runners from the station to reduce travel impact.
The event follows Association of Running Clubs guidelines. It is carbon neutral, uses recycled slate medals for finishers, operates a kit swap shop and supports the WOLO Foundation by offering free fundraising places. Running with dogs is prohibited and in-ear or over-ear headphones are not permitted; bone conducting earphones are allowed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
