Rat Race 100 Edinburgh
The Rat Race 100 Edinburgh is a mass participation 100-mile (160 km) ultramarathon taking place 24 - 26 July 2027 with a 48-hour completion window. The event is listed as Run/Trek and forms one part of a three-event trilogy; each edition begins where the previous one finished, and completing all three earns a Trilogy Finisher buckle.
The course starts in Edinburgh city centre (Princes Street Gardens) and finishes at Glamis Castle. It is fully waymarked with bright orange arrows and is fully supported with event logistics, multiple staffed Pit Stops and a sweeper service. There are provisions for bag transport (up to five bags) and options for sleep stations at later Pit Stops.
Entry requires no qualifying times and the event is operated around a walker-friendly 2.5 mph completion pace. Medical cover is delivered by a professional team of paramedics and doctors, operating in vehicles and a private ambulance; the event is independently audited for safety and risk management.
There are nine Pit Stops along the route with a mix of SIMPLE and ENHANCED stations. Standard Pit Stop provisions include water, juice, sweet and salty snacks, fruit, toilets and on-site medical support; enhanced stops offer hot food and larger catering options. Sleep stations are available at the Pit Stops around 57 miles, 66 miles and 78 miles with an increased bag allowance of up to 25 L and 10 kg. Cut-offs are in place after Pit Stop 6 and are designed for the 2.5 mph moving pace.
