Shale Trail Run 26
Shale Trail Run 26 is a point to point series of races on 6th December 2026 in West Calder, organised by Lothian Running Club. All races follow the West Lothian Shale Trail between Winchburgh and West Calder via Broxburn and the Almond Valley, using the Union Canal.

- 50K race
- 25K race
- 9K race
- 3 x 8K relay covering the full route
The route is waymarked and supported by marshals and a tail runner. Checkpoints and water stations are located at intervals along the trail; drop bag service is provided to West Calder for the 50K and baggage transport is offered from the 25K start to the 25K finish. There are no baggage facilities for the 9K or the relay. Dogs and pushchairs are not permitted on any race.
Safety measures include on-course marshals, checkpoint provision and first aid at the start and finish areas. The 50K has an 8 hour cut off. Runners are required to carry basic compulsory equipment such as a head covering, waterproof jacket, space blanket or similar, mobile phone, food and drink; trail shoes are recommended.
Timing is by chip. All finishers receive a memento and results will be published after the event. Trophies are planned for top finishers and age category positions. The event supports the Smalls for All charity; organisers will donate any surplus and entries include an option to donate.
