Event overview
Rare Disease Day takes place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Red Tail Pavilion, 2801 E. Spring Creek Pkwy., Plano, TX 75074. The event is presented by Run Different and includes the following options: 5K, 1 Mile, Kid's Dash (100–200 meters), and a Virtual Option. The 1 Mile option is an untimed event with no age group awards. The Kid's Dash is free; dashers may purchase a t-shirt or finisher medal as add-ons. The virtual option includes shipment of shirt and medal the week of the race.
Registration, fees and items included
Current listed fees are $35 for the 5K, $18 for the 1 Mile, $0 for the Kid's Dash, and $40 for the Virtual Option. The 5K and 1 Mile registration typically include an event-themed participation t-shirt and a custom finisher medal; registrants are advised to register by February 14 to guarantee t-shirt size. The 5K is eligible for age group awards; the 1 Mile is not.
Awards, volunteers and charity
Age group awards are organized by male/female divisions from 0-4 through 80+ and will be awarded three deep. Overall and masters categories (including male/female masters 40+ and grand masters 60+) receive platinum medals. Awards are distributed at the event and will not be shipped. Volunteer roles are available for short tasks and include a code reward for a free future race. Run Different states it will donate 100% of profits and donations to the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
