Event Overview
The Rae of Sunshine 5K is a community sports event held in Pittston, Pennsylvania. The event serves to honor the memory of a local student and raise funds for a memorial scholarship. Participants can choose between two primary events:
- 5K Run
- 1 Mile Walk
The course takes participants through the streets of Hughestown Boro. Both the 5K and the 1 Mile Walk start and finish at the Pittston Area Primary Center on Rock Street. Individual water bottles are provided to participants at the finish line, though runners are encouraged to bring their own hydration for use during the race.
Registration and Awards
Registration is available in advance or on the day of the race at the Pittston Area Primary Center. The first 50 participants to register are eligible for an event T-shirt, provided they sign up before the early June deadline.
An awards ceremony follows the completion of the events. For the 5K Run, a cash prize is awarded to the top overall male and female finishers. Additionally, medals are presented to the top three male and female runners in ten-year age categories ranging from 0-9 to 70+. The 1 Mile Walk also features awards, with medals for the top three male and female adult walkers, as well as separate medals for the top three male and female youth walkers.
