Damon S. Young Memorial Race
The event takes place on private property in Centermoreland near Tunkhannock, PA. It offers multiple distances on a mixed-surface course that uses dirt roads, mowed fields and wooded trails. The start and finish are on the Young family property on Pine Ridge Road.
Distances include:
- 1/2 Marathon (two 10k laps)
- 10K Run
- 5K Run/Walk
- 2 Mile Fun Walk
The courses begin with a downhill section. Runners follow a mowed grass path through fields for about a mile, then a half mile on dirt road. The 5K includes roughly a mile of trails through woods before returning on the dirt road. The 10K continues through woods and fields, with about four miles in the trees before returning. The half marathon is two laps of the 10K course. Each 10K lap contains about 750 to 850 feet of climbing, so the half marathon accumulates roughly 1500 to 1700 feet of climbing.
The half marathon includes two water only stations and three fully stocked aid stations at approximate mile markers. The 2 mile fun walk is untimed, without bib numbers or awards, and follows Pine Ridge Road to a turnaround about one mile out.
Day of registration and packet pickup are available. Day-of fees and t-shirt availability are noted for those registering on race day. Awards are given to overall male and female winners for the 5K, 10K and half marathon. Food and post-race refreshments are provided for registered participants, and gear and raffle items are available for purchase. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
