RACING SO THEY CAN RIDE

RACING SO THEY CAN RIDE is a community running event held at DICK'S Sporting Goods on Vann Drive in Jackson, Tennessee. The event offers multiple distance options and lists entry as including a short sleeve shirt.

The event’s purpose is to raise funds and awareness for the Rein-bow Riding Academy’s hippotherapy program operated through the Therapy & Learning Center. Funds raised from the race are used to pay for hippotherapy so that there is no cost to the families who receive the service.

Hippotherapy is a form of therapy in which a therapist uses the characteristic movements of a horse to provide graded motor and sensory input. The horse’s gait gives rhythmic and repetitive movement that mimics human walking patterns, which helps coordinate muscle activity and balance. During sessions, sensory messages are relayed to the rider’s brain to support improved functionality.

Those who benefit include people with medical conditions such as cerebral palsy, abnormal muscle tone, sensory integration disorders, impaired communication, autism spectrum disorders, and impaired balance responses. The program serves patients of all ages and does not require the ability to walk. Sponsors listed for the event include the Therapy & Learning Center and Forty West.
