Race the Sunset 5K

Race the Sunset 5K is event number 9 in the Race the Region Racing Series, held in Chesterton, Indiana. The event includes a 5K Run/Walk and awards for overall and age-group finishers. All participants receive a custom finisher medal; those who finish before sunset receive a special finisher medal to commemorate the achievement.

Registration is online only. Registration opens December 26, 2025 and closes September 14, 2026; the registration fee is $30. Online registration will remain open on race day until 6:10 PM. There is no processing fee for online signups. Race premium sizes are guaranteed to participants registered by August 31.

Pre-race packet pick up is available September 18 from 10 AM to 6 PM, September 19 from 10 AM to 5 PM, and September 20 from Noon to 3 PM at The Extra Mile Fitness Company, 3400 Calumet Ave., Valparaiso, IN 46383. Onsite packet pick up is available on race day beginning at 5 PM.

A park entry fee applies; prior to the race, participants may show their bib number or a copy of their registration confirmation at the gate to enter without paying. Timing mats at the starting line and chip timing are used for finish results, and live results are available via text and email. All turns have directional signs. Overall and age-group awards may be claimed within 14 days at The Extra Mile Fitness Co.; unclaimed awards will be donated or recycled after that period. Participants who do not pick up their race shirt on or before race day are not guaranteed a shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
