Race to the Lake - Pelham
Race to the Lake is a low cost trail race held at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. The event is organized by BUTS and uses the Lakeside pavilion near the South Trailhead as the start and finish location. Participants must pay a $5 park entry fee in cash; eligible military veterans enter the park free.
The course is a 10 mile lollipop route composed largely of single track. It features technical but runnable sections, steep and rocky descents, several up and down segments early in the race, and multiple climbs through the foothills. The course includes a stretch around the lake and passes the BMX course at just over halfway.
Total vertical gain is about 2,000 feet. There is one aid station located a little past the halfway point; it is unmanned but stocked with water and a few items such as gels. Packet pick up occurs on race day morning at the Lakeside pavilion. Registration closes in advance of race day and race day or late registrations are not allowed.
