Race the Dead
Race the Dead is an untimed, themed fun run hosted by the Lake Run Club out of Kicks Bar and Grill in Towanda, Illinois. The course is a flat 5K (3.1 miles) out-and-back that follows the old RT 66 alignment and passes the historic Towanda cemetery. Scenic luminaries line the route.
There is a single water stop located about 0.4 miles from the start/finish that runners may use twice. The stop provides water and seasonal treats and refreshments. An illuminated clock will be visible at the finish line, but the event is not officially timed. Participants are advised to bring a flashlight as portions of the course are run in low light.
Two registration options are offered: an entry with a long sleeve technical shirt that features a seasonal image, and an entry without a shirt. Shirt entries close on October 17; online registration without a shirt remains available through October 30. Fees are $25 with shirt and $10 without shirt, with a $2 Lake Run Club member discount applied to each option. Entry fee includes a coupon for a soft drink or beer redeemable at Kicks Bar and Grill.
