Event Overview
Race the Dead is a themed fun run held in Towanda, Illinois. The event takes place on an out and back course that follows the old Route 66. Participants run past the historic Towanda cemetery on a flat path illuminated by scenic luminaries. While the run is not officially timed, an illuminated clock is provided at the finish line for runners to check their own progress.
Course Details
The course covers a total distance of 5 km. A single water station is located approximately 0.4 miles from the start and finish area, which runners pass twice. This station provides water along with seasonal treats and refreshments. Because the event begins at sundown, the use of flashlights is recommended for all participants.
Participation and Registration
Participants have the option to wear Halloween costumes, with prizes available for those who dress up. The event is hosted at Kicks Bar and Grill, and the entry fee includes a coupon for a beverage at the venue. Two main registration options are available:
- Race The Dead - With Shirt: Includes a long-sleeve technical shirt with a seasonal image.
- Race The Dead - No Shirt: A standard entry option without the event shirt.
Online registration for the shirt option typically closes earlier in October, while registration without a shirt remains open until the day of the event. Members of the Lake Run Club (LRC) receive a discount on their entry fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
