Race the Dead, Towanda, IL (10/30/2026)
Race the Dead is an evening fun run organized from Kicks Bar and Grill at 19578 N 1960 East Rd, Towanda, IL. The course is a flat 5K out-and-back that follows a stretch of old Route 66 and passes the historic Towanda cemetery. Luminaries line the route to define the course.
The run is not officially timed, but an illuminated clock will be at the finish. Participants are advised to bring a flashlight, especially slower runners, since lighting depends on the luminaries and natural light levels. A single water stop sits about 0.4 miles from the start and can be used twice; it offers water plus seasonal treats and refreshments.
Costumes are optional and prizes may be awarded for costume choices. Entry includes a coupon for a soft drink or beer redeemable at Kicks Bar and Grill.
Registration details are split by shirt option. Registration opens September 3. The shirt option is a long sleeve technical shirt with a seasonal image; that option is available through October 17 and carries a $20 fee before discounts. A no shirt option is available for $8 with online registration accepted through October 30. Lake Run Club members receive a $2 discount on both options.
