Race for the Watershed Duck Derby and 5K
This community fundraiser in Glen Mills supports watershed protection projects in partnership with Concord Township. Funds will be used for trail maintenance and erosion control, tree maintenance and plantings, streambank restorations, improvements to structures and public spaces within the watershed area, and water quality monitoring.
The event combines a 5K race, a duck derby, and a Family Fun Festival featuring vendors, games, music, food trucks, and other activities. The duck derby includes heats and a championship race with a $1,000 grand prize and a $100 prize for an earlier heat. Duck entries are offered at $20 per duck or $50 for three ducks.
Runner registration is listed at $35 with a higher day of price. Prizes will be awarded by age group for both men and women, and beer is available at the finish line for runners over 21 sponsored by Succession Fermentory.
The race highlights local water quality concerns for the Chester Creek that runs through Newlin Grist Mill. Organizers monitor pollutants, water temperature, and other factors, and note a range of aquatic life present in the creek including freshwater fish, turtles, aquatic insects, freshwater mussels, and stocked trout. The event aims to raise funds for projects that reduce pollution and improve habitat in the watershed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
