Event Overview
This is the Race for Communication 2026. It is a charity event supporting the International Association for Spelling as Communication (I-ASC). Proceeds benefit I-ASC's work to promote communication access, inclusion, and empowerment for nonspeaking people with sensory-motor disabilities.
Event Details
The event takes place at Lake Accotink Park in Springfield, Virginia.
Participants can choose from three distances:
- 10K
- 5K
- 1 mile
The course is described as flat, paved, and an out-and-back route. The 10K follows the 5K course twice.
A virtual run option is also available for those who cannot attend on race day.
Registration & Inclusions
Registration fees are listed as:
- 5K – $30 (increasing to $35 after March 30)
- 10K – $45 (increasing to $50 after March 30)
- 1 mile – $15 The price increases by $5 for each distance on race morning.
Registration includes a finisher's medal, a technical (Drifit) event shirt, and chip timing. T-shirts are guaranteed for registrations before April 8; later registrations receive shirts on a first-come, first-served basis.
Race-day registration is available.
Points & Series
Race points count towards the organizer's Year-Long 5K, 10K, Kids, and Back of the Pack series, as well as their Spring Series. The Back of the Pack series is geared towards runners with a pace slower than a listed time.
On-Site Information
Packet pickup is available at the event. It is recommended to arrive one hour before your event start time.
There will be three water stations on the 10K course and one on the 5K course. Some stations may offer Gatorade. Restrooms are located near the beach area.
The event operates rain or shine. Weather updates are posted on the organizer's social media.
Awards & Results
Awards are given to the top 3 men and women overall. Age group awards are given for 1st and 2nd place Male and Female in categories from 19 & Under to 70+. Overall winners are not eligible for age group awards.
Live results will be posted online, and a QR code will be available at the race for immediate results. Final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
