RACE Cancer Summer Series - Boston 5K
The event on Thursday, September 24, 2026 is part of the Boston 5K Spring and Summer Series and features a 5K (3.1 miles) distance. It is one of eight Thursday evening 5K races held from April through September.
All races are based at the American Legion Marsh Post #442 in Cambridge and are run on paved paths along the Charles River. A temporary bypass course is in use while construction on the docks and the Eliot Bridge is completed.
The series schedule places a Women's 5K and an Open 5K on the first four dates with the Open race held later; the final four races run everyone together. Races are chip timed. Number pick-up is available before the race and free, secure bag check is provided.
Each event includes a post-race party at the Marsh Post with beer from Mighty Squirrel and Sicilian pizza from Pinocchio's; all entrants receive two free beers. Entry fees are listed as $42 early, $46 the same week and $50 on race day. Season pass options include a Full Season Pass, a Spring Pass covering the first four races and a Summer Pass covering the last four.
Awards are given to the top three overall in the Women's 5K, the top three male and female overall in the Open 5K, plus Open 5K age group winners (20 and under, 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+). A season points competition runs across the series. One hundred percent of event proceeds go to charity, including a portion to the American Legion Marsh Post, and the series supports the Sunscreen Squad, which brings free sunscreen to outdoor events across Massachusetts.
