RACE Cancer Summer Series - Boston 5K
This event is a 5K road race held at the American Legion Marsh Post #442 on Greenough Boulevard in Cambridge. It is one of eight Thursday evening 5K races in the Boston 5K Spring & Summer Series, held from April through September. The series schedules a separate Women's 5K followed by an Open 5K for the first four dates; in the final four races all entrants run together.
Runners follow paved paths along the Charles River. A temporary bypass course is in use while construction on the docks and the Eliot Bridge is completed. Races are chip timed. Number pick-up is available shortly before the race and free, secure bag check is provided.
Each event includes a post-race gathering at the Marsh Post featuring beer from Mighty Squirrel and Sicilian pizza from Pinocchio's; all entrants receive two free beers. Entry fees vary by purchase timing: $42 early, $46 the same week, and $50 on race day. Season pass options are offered, including a Full Season Pass, a Spring Pass for the first four races, and a Summer Pass for the last four.
Awards are given to the top three overall in the Women's 5K and to the top three male and female overall in the Open 5K, plus Open 5K age group winners in these ranges: 20 and under, 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over. A season points competition runs across the series.
One hundred percent of event proceeds go to charity, including a portion to the American Legion Marsh Post, and the series supports the Sunscreen Squad, which provides free sunscreen at outdoor events across Massachusetts. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
