Race Across the Roodee
Race Across the Roodee is a sponsored walk at Chester Racecourse on Saturday 26 September 2026 that raises funds for the Thriving Families programme, delivered by the Cheshire Community Foundation and hosted by the High Sheriff of Cheshire. The event aims to support services such as mentoring, parenting support, mental health assistance, and early intervention programmes for families across Cheshire.
Participants include families, community groups and workplace teams. The route consists of five circuits of the racecourse, approximately five miles in total. Along the route there are optional challenges and activities that involve light physical and mental tasks, encourage teamwork and problem solving, and require no specialist knowledge or exceptional fitness. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead.
Registration is available online via Nifty Entries and may be completed up to and including the day of the event. Early registration fees are £5.00 per participant or £4.00 each for teams of three or more; from 1 August these fees increase to £7.50 per participant or £6.00 for team entries. Fundraising can be managed through JustGiving and the event has a fundraising target of £30,000. Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet is listed as an event sponsor.
The racecourse site will have safety measures, first aid, water stations, toilets and catering. Chester Station is the nearest railway station and is within walking distance of the venue. Accessibility varies across the racecourse and provisions are in place to support participants with access requirements. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
