The route runs coast-to-coast, starting at Portpatrick harbour and finishing at Cockburnspath Village Hall. The course includes mountains, valleys, and forests.

Course and Logistics

The event has a 100-hour overall time limit. There are 12 official checkpoints along the route, plus several emergency shelters. A low-level alternative route may be used in cases of severe weather. Runners must be self-sufficient between checkpoints and carry all mandatory kit. Support crews are permitted from Checkpoint 3 (Glentrool) onwards, with specific access and parking rules.

Participants must meet a qualifying criteria based on endurance and ultrarunning experience and be able to self-navigate using a map and compass. The event has a capacity of 250 places.

A comprehensive mandatory kit list is enforced, including a waterproof coat and trousers, a compass, a headtorch, a survival bag, water purification tablets, and emergency food rations. Kit checks are conducted at registration. The event provides live tracking and is a cupless event, requiring participants to bring their own cup.

Dropbag facilities are available at designated checkpoints. Pacers or support runners are not permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
