Queen Maeve's

The event is a marked mountain race on Knocknarea, with the start and finish at the main Knocknarea tourist carpark (Knocknarea Hill Walk Carpark). The course includes two climbs of the mountain, running along a wall with views over Strandhill and Coney Island, a summit loop around the cairn, a descent through a gulley, and a final section that slightly diverts onto the Rathcarrick trail for 200 metres to provide a safer surface for finishes.

Distances:

  • 6.50 km with 340 m climb.
  • Short Course ≈4 km follows the route to the cairn and back; this is also the junior route.

The route is fully marked and GPS devices are not allowed. The event is listed with Level B - Standard mandatory kit. Required items are a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, a charged mobile phone with the emergency number stored, and a foil blanket, bivvy bag or equivalent. The exact kit to be carried during the race will be finalised on the day and advised at registration. Random kit checks may be carried out and failure to have required items may lead to denial of entry or disqualification.

Entry fees are €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. Entries open Monday 3 August 2026 and close Wednesday 12 August 2026. Prizegiving and refreshments take place at the finish line at the Knocknarea Hill Walk carpark. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
