The Montana Marathon
The Montana Marathon takes place in Billings and the surrounding countryside. This event is a point-to-point race known for a fast course and wide-open views of the rolling plains and mountain ranges. The marathon route begins in the town of Molt and features a net downhill drop of over 1,000 feet as it descends toward the finish line in downtown Billings.
Participants can choose from several race distances:
- Full Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 10K
- 5K
- Little Buzz Run (distances of 1 mile, 1/2 mile, or 1/4 mile for children)
The marathon serves as a Boston Qualifier. Because the course is open to vehicle traffic, runners are instructed to run against traffic and are encouraged to wear bright clothing for visibility. The marathon has a cut-off time of 6.5 hours, and all participants must finish by 1:30 PM.
The organizers provide shuttle services to the various starting points from Senior High School, as there is no parking available at the marathon or half marathon start lines. Along the course, there are thirteen aid stations and several portable toilets located at regular intervals. Strollers and dogs are not permitted on the marathon or half marathon courses.
