Montana Marathon - Billings, MT
The Montana Marathon is scheduled for September 20, 2026, in Billings, Montana. It is a point-to-point event that begins near the small town of Molt and finishes in Pioneer Park in downtown Billings.
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 10K (6 miles)
- 5K (3 miles)
The marathon course follows rolling plains and a gradual downhill descent with a net drop of approximately 1,000 feet into the city, offering open skies and mountain views. The route picks up participants from the half marathon, 10K and 5K along the way. The half marathon has been selected as the Road Runners Club of America Montana State Championship Race. The course is also used by runners pursuing Boston Marathon qualifying times.
Logistics note that shuttles transport Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K participants from the Senior High School parking lot because there is no parking at the start areas. The 5K starts at Rose Park and finishes at Pioneer Park; post-race shuttles return 5K runners to Rose Park.
Support on course includes multiple aid stations at roughly marathon miles 3, 6, 9, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. Portapotties are available at the bus loading area, race starts, several mile points and the finish.
For safety and event procedures: strollers are not permitted on the Marathon or Half Marathon courses, dogs are not permitted on any course, the course is open to traffic with volunteers at most intersections, participants are asked to remain on the right side of the road unless directed otherwise, and the use of earbuds or personal music devices is strongly discouraged. Finisher medals and age group and overall awards are offered for all distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
