Quad Dipsea
The Quad Dipsea is a 28.4 mile trail event in Mill Valley, California, that follows the Dipsea Trail between Old Mill Park and Stinson Beach and back, repeated to form the full Quad distance. The course includes stairs, multiple steep climbs, and roughly 9,000 feet of cumulative vertical gain packed into the route.
The route leaves Old Mill Park (Throckmorton Avenue, Cascade Way, and Old Mill Street intersection), climbs multiple flights of stairs and climbs through areas described as an old horse ranch to Windy Gap, then descends into Muir Woods and crosses Redwood Creek. Trail sections include names such as Dynamite, The Hogsback, The Rainforest, Cardiac, Steep Ravine, Insult Hill, and The Moors, with Stinson Beach visible near the ocean before the turnaround. Runners follow the same course back to Old Mill Park and then repeat the out-and-back sequence for the Quad.
Aid stations are located at Cardiac Hill, Stinson Beach, and Old Mill Park (start/finish and the halfway point). Due to single-track sections, pacers and hiking or trekking poles are not permitted. Shortcuts are not allowed; participants must remain on the Dipsea Trail for the entire course.
Registration closes October 1. There is a wait list; invitations to register are sent as spots open and the entrant list is finalized by November 10. No refunds, rollovers, or exchanges are permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
