Quad Dipsea
The Quad Dipsea is a trail race in Mill Valley, California, covering 28.4 miles on the Dipsea Trail. The route begins at Old Mill Park (Throckmorton Avenue & Cascade Way) and goes to Stinson Beach and back along the same course, then repeats that out and back for the full Quad distance.
The course includes many stairs and sustained climbing, with about 9,000 feet of total vertical gain. Early sections climb steep flights of stairs and pass through an old horse ranch to Windy Gap, then descend into Muir Woods and cross Redwood Creek. Runners ascend through trail sections named Dynamite, The Hogsback, The Rainforest, and Cardiac, reach panoramic ocean views, then descend Steep Ravine and climb Insult Hill. The final approach to Stinson passes across The Moors toward the ocean.
Aid stations are located at Cardiac Hill, Stinson Beach, and Old Mill Park (start/finish and the halfway turnaround). The event enforces time limits and cutoffs at multiple points on the course. Due to single track sections, pacers and hiking poles are not allowed. There are no refunds, rollovers, or exchanges, and a wait list is used to fill openings; the entrant list is finalized by November 10. Registration closes October 1.
