Trail Running at Night
The Q50 Races Chupacabra is a night trail running event held at Bogue Chitto State Park in Franklinton, Louisiana. The competition takes place on a dirt trail consisting of a 5 mile or 6 mile loop, depending on the specific distance selected. The course features scenic natural views and small hills but is described as non-technical.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 5 miles (1 loop)
- 10 miles (2 loops)
As this is a night race, all runners are required to carry a bright headlamp or flashlight and extra batteries. For safety and environmental reasons, additional mandatory gear includes a whistle and a reusable hydration container, such as a camelback, water bottle, or hydration belt. The event follows a "green" policy, meaning no paper cups are provided at the aid stations.
The race site offers a water and food station located at the finish line, with post-race food provided by the New Orleans Mission. Participants are responsible for a park entrance fee upon arrival. The event prohibits the use of headphones, and dogs, pacers, or strollers are not permitted on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
