Puzzlerun York
Puzzlerun York is an event that combines a 5 km run or walk with escape-room-style mental challenges. The course is situated at the York Sport Village on a flat, smooth tarmac surface. This venue utilizes the 1 km cycling loop, which is the same location used for the Heslington Parkrun.
Participants can take part individually or in teams of up to four people. The event requires the use of a smartphone or tablet with internet access, as the "puzzling" and "running" components are managed via a web application. This app acts as the primary tool for the event, allowing participants to input answers, receive hints, and track their progress through the stations.
The event structure consists of:
- 5 km total distance covering ten puzzle stations
As participants reach each station, they enter a code into the web application to switch from the running timer to a puzzling timer. Once a puzzle is solved correctly, the app automatically switches back to the running timer for the next leg of the course. The combined time stops after the tenth puzzle is completed.
On-site facilities at the York Sport Village include a bag drop area and access to a nearby cafe providing toilets, drinks, and snacks. All finishers receive a medal upon completion of the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
