Event overview

Leeds Country Way Winter Ultras is a two-day, point-to-point ultra event that follows the Leeds Country Way footpaths around the city of Leeds. It takes place in January 2026 across two consecutive days. The event is limited to 150 entrants and has a minimum age of 20. Entry requires evidence of at least one completed marathon or ultra-marathon within the last four years. Prices range from about £50 to £110 depending on options.

Routes and services

  • ~59 km LCW South: Garforth to Greengates, ~800 m elevation
  • ~43 km LCW North: Greengates to Garforth, ~650 m elevation

Both routes use footpaths, bridleways and minor lanes and pass local towns, parks and nature reserves. Starts and finishes use warm indoor venues at Miners Welfare Hall (Garforth) and St John’s Community Church (Greengates). The event provides manned checkpoints and aid stations, an indoor aid station near halfway, hot drinks, a hot meal at the end of each day, bag transfers and a wooden finisher medal.

Rules, navigation and kit

The races are not marked and require self-navigation; GPX files will be available and a printed map is recommended. Runners must carry mandatory kit including hat and gloves, waterproof jacket with taped seams, at least 500 ml fluid, headtorch or torch, whistle, emergency food, map and route description, survival bag, foil blanket, mobile phone and a cup. Crews and pacers are allowed with restrictions; runners must carry mandatory kit themselves. There are cut-offs at the halfway points and a 10-hour course close each day.
