Purple Polka Dot Race
The Purple Polka Dot Race is a community walk and run scheduled for August 9, 2026, at Stony Creek Metropark. The event offers several distance options, including:
- 5 km walk or run
- 10 km walk or run
- Family fun run
The event was established after the organizers' daughter was born with a port-wine stain, a type of vascular birthmark. She receives laser treatments that produce temporary purple polka dots on her face. The race's stated mission is to raise awareness about vascular birthmarks, encourage acceptance of visible differences, and share information about vascular birthmark conditions and care.
All funds raised by the Purple Polka Dot Race are directed to the Vascular Anomalies Alliance (VAA). Over the past nine years the organizers report having helped raise more than $200,000 for the vascular birthmark community. A recent stated fundraising goal was to raise $20,000 to support VAA programming and services. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
