Prairie Burn 100
The Prairie Burn 100 is an annual gravel bike ride and fun run held each June in Grinnell, Iowa. The event supports Imagine Grinnell, a local nonprofit, and combines timed cycling options with community activities.
Distances offered include:
- 25 km gravel route
- 50 km gravel route
- 100 km gravel route
- 5K fun run
- 3K fun run
The bike routes are chip timed with competitive options available, though riders may choose how they participate. Courses are open to vehicle traffic and route files are provided for navigation. Helmets are required. Aid stations are positioned at 13 km, 44 km, and 57 km. E-bikes are not eligible for 100 km race prizes. Riders are advised to know how to fix a flat, carry a cell phone, and have a bailout plan; a final sweep of the course is performed.
Event-day offerings center in Grinnell and have included live music, a beverage garden, food trucks, a farmers market, yoga in the park, and children's art and literacy activities. Organizers also run community rides in Grinnell throughout the year, with Tuesday rides around 20–25 miles year-round and Thursday rides 10–15 miles from April through October.
