Jace Race 2026
The Jace Race is an annual community event held in New Sharon, Iowa. Now in its 18th year, the event is organized in memory of a local boy, Jace Carrico. The race traditionally takes place in conjunction with the New Sharon Spring Festival and offers participants the opportunity to commemorate Jace through physical activity.
Participants can choose from several event formats:
- 5K (In-person running race)
- 5K (Virtual or phantom runner option)
- 1 Mile (Fun run or walk)
The 1 Mile Fun Run and Walk is held at the North Mahaska track, providing a shorter distance option for those who prefer it. For those unable to attend the physical location at 2163 135th St., a virtual participation option is available.
Proceeds from the event are directed to the North Mahaska Education Foundation (N.M.E.F.). These funds support various educational initiatives for children in the New Sharon community. Past race proceeds have been used for classroom resources, technology, furniture, and field trips. Recent projects include the funding of a theater program, classroom libraries, and scholarships for North Mahaska High School students. The foundation also uses the profits to support individual student needs in school settings and to host fine art-based assemblies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
