PPTC Al Goldstein Speed Series 5K
The Prospect Park Track Club runs a summer series of seven 5K races on alternating Wednesday evenings in Prospect Park. Scheduled dates for 2026 are May 20, June 3, June 17, July 1, July 15, July 29, and August 12, with August 26 reserved as a rain make up date if a race is canceled. Season bibs go on sale April 14 and will not be available after May 19 at noon or if sold out.
Registration options include a season bib for all seven races for $50, individual race registration at $12.50, and day of race walk in registration at $15 if the race has not sold out. Early bib pick up is available on May 19 at Brooklyn Running Co (480 Bergen St). Bib pickup, bag check, and Race Central are located at the Concert Grove Pavilion near Harry’s Wall.
The course starts on East Drive at Center Drive and finishes on East Drive at Harry’s Wall. The course is USATF certified, certification code NY23032DNB, and carries a time limit of 15 minutes per mile. Water fountains are available at Harry’s Wall and the LeFrak Center at Lakeside; there is one course water station shortly before the 2 mile mark and water at the finish. Bathrooms are available at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside.
Awards include top three placings in each category and first in each age group. Age groups include 9 and under, 10 to 14, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79, and 80 and over. Runners who complete all seven races receive a series medal; there is an option to opt out of the series medal. A team scoring pilot uses a cross country style format where each team’s top five finishers combine places and the lowest total wins; team placings count toward overall series standings.
A portion of proceeds will be donated to community partners including Prospect Park Alliance and Back on My Feet, and solidarity bibs are offered to local schools and community organizations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
