Portland Pig BackYard Ultra
The Portland Pig BackYard Ultra is the fifth edition of a backyard ultra scheduled for 1 May 2026 at Grove Farm Estate, Grove Road, Portland, Dorset DT5 1GD. This year it is a Silver Ticket event; the winner of a Silver Ticket event secures automatic qualification for the national team.
The race format requires competitors to complete a lap of 6,706 metres (4.167 miles) in less than one hour. Laps start on the hour and continue each hour until only one runner remains. Remaining time within each hour is normally used for recovery between laps.
The course uses a mix of surfaces, including grass, gravel, track, tarmac and pavement, and passes local points of interest such as quarries with carvings, an Olympic sailing venue, coastal views, a cricket club, animal farms and historic batteries. The route is fully marked and chip timed.
Entry includes on-site camping for the runner and two crew, with space for motorhomes but no caravans. All camping pitches are non hook up. Facilities include hot and cold water and toilets. Runners must be self-sufficient for food. Event rules state no outside assistance, no running or walking poles, and no wood burning open fire pits. Medical cover, marshals, a race brief and a DNF medal are provided. The winner receives a hand carved Portland stone memento.
