Porthkerry 5 MT
The Porthkerry 5 MT is a 5 mile mixed-terrain race held within Porthkerry Country Park in the Vale of Glamorgan. The course runs mostly inside the park’s 220 acres and offers views of the Bristol Channel and the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. The event marked its 20th anniversary in 2026.
The route is approximately 95% within the park and includes a variety of surfaces: open grassland, woodland paths, trails and tarmac. The course layout features two climbs, several fast flat sections and a few descents. Key sections include a fast first mile around The Meadow with a spectator-friendly switchback, a shoreline stretch, trails through Viaduct Wood and around Porthkerry Viaduct, a short sharp climb from Cwm Barri with loops through the Four Fields, and a speedy final mile that runs partly through woodland before returning along The Meadow.
The race has awarded prizes for first, second and third place men and women as well as age-group prizes. There is a time limit of 1 hour 15 minutes for completion. The organisers have described the event as a low cost, no frills race and the 2026 entry fees were £10 and £12. The race has been licensed by Welsh Athletics (Licence No. TR-26-24) and has incorporated the South Wales Regional Trail Championship in recent years.
