Porter Fire's Stop, Drop and Run 5K
Porter Fire's Stop, Drop and Run is a 5K Run/Walk held at Hawthorne Park, 500 Ackerman Dr., Porter, IN. The event is organized to raise funds for the Porter Fire Department to purchase essential gear, support additional training opportunities, and further develop dive response. A portion of the funds will be donated to the Warren "Skip" Highwood Memorial Foundation, which awards scholarships for careers in emergency services and sponsors a child to attend the Hoosier Burn Camp.
The course uses streets and a bike trail and both the start and finish are at Hawthorne Park. The event is chip timed and results are posted at thtiming.com. Water stations are located at the fire station at about 1.25 miles and 2.25 miles. Route marking will be clear and after the event refreshments and snacks will be provided. Restrooms may be available in the Community Building at Hawthorne Park and at the Porter Fire Department along the route.
Registration is online only, opens March 23 and remains available until the race begins; there will be no on site registration. The standard registration fee is $30. Race day shirt pickup is available at Hawthorne Park on the day of the event and shirts are distributed on a first come first serve basis; registrations completed by July 30 will guarantee a shirt. Strollers and dogs are permitted with dogs required to be up to date on shots, on a six foot leash, and friendly with adults, children, and other dogs.
Awards include medals for the top three finishers by gender in each listed age group. Unclaimed overall and age group awards for registered nonparticipants may be claimed within seven days at the Porter Fire Station, 550 W. Beam St., Porter, IN 46304.
